Why Polyurea And Polyurethane Linings Are Better Than Rubber Or Paint For Secondary Containment
Rubber lining, paint, and other surface protection simply do not last as long as polymers such as polyurethane and polyurea. They can also release and absorb materials causing contamination. And, they do not have the same abrasion and corrosion resistance as polyurethane or polyurea. Chemically aggressive fluids will find and exploit weaknesses found in rubber linings and paint. Many of our products are less expensive than comparable epoxy coatings with better durability.
Unlike pre-formed liners, sprayed-on coatings are thinner and take up less space. They form a seamless membrane that exactly fits the shape, even where poles, pumps, and other internal or external structures attach. Penetrations such as piping and drains are sealed so that even vibrations do not cause an unexpected leak.
Secondary Containment
Back-up systems typically involve hazardous materials such as chemicals, fuels, wastewater, crude oil, and other corrosive liquids. Our polyurethane and polyurea coatings prevent surface degradation that can cause secondary containment systems to fail. Reactants and corrosive materials sit harmlessly against the polymer barrier. Constant exposure to direct sunlight does not damage these coatings. Surfaces can expand and contract without cracking in extreme weather.
Polyurea And Polyurethane Secondary Containment Features
- Conforms to most surfaces to provide a seamless liquid membrane/barrier
- Can be installed while tanks are in operation
- Fills around irregular voids such as piping, conduit, concrete bases.
- Adheres well to both metals and concrete
- Custom formulations available
Polyurea And Polyurethane Coatings Offer Seamless Application
Spray applied liners are your first choice when complex detail work is required. They are excellent for retrofitting existing secondary containment tank farm liners and primary tank relining. Spray-applied geomembranes encapsulate details with a seamless liquid barrier. In areas where multiple pipes need to penetrate the liner, a spray-applied material may be your only option. Spray-applied geomembranes have excellent chemical resistance. They can be formulated to resist many problematic or hazardous chemicals, often at high service temperatures.
